Calculate Area From a Floor Plan Image

Use a drawing instead of retyping every side length. After calibrating one known dimension, trace the corners of a room, roof, slab or site boundary and ArchiTeamTools calculates the real area represented by that polygon.

Built for a fast architecture workflow

  • Works with plan images and PDFs
  • One-time calibration from a known length
  • Trace irregular polygon boundaries point by point
  • Choose m, cm, mm or ft as the reference unit
  • Style the area outline and export the marked-up result

How to use it in practice

This is useful when a room, terrace, roof or site boundary is not a simple rectangle. Instead of splitting the shape into several manual calculations, you can trace the actual perimeter visible on the plan after calibration.

How to use Calculate Area From a Floor Plan Image

  1. 1

Upload a plan and calibrate it using a known distance.

  2. 2

Choose Draw area and click around the boundary in order.

  3. 3

Finish the polygon to calculate the enclosed area.

  4. 4

Adjust outline, label and fill styling if needed, then export the result.

Common questions

Can the area be an irregular shape?

Yes. The tool is built around polygon tracing, so the boundary can follow multiple corners rather than only a rectangle.

What should I calibrate with?

Use a dimension on the drawing that you trust, ideally a clearly labeled wall, grid spacing or known site distance.

Can I calculate roof or slab area from a plan?

You can trace any visible calibrated 2D boundary. For sloped surface area, use a tool that accounts for the slope rather than relying only on plan area.
